Allentown Parking Authority

The city of Allentown relies on street signs to direct and control both traffic flow and parking areas. The Allentown Parking Authority can facilitate both permanent and temporary signs.

If you are moving, having work done at your property, etc., you may purchase Temporary No Parking signs from the Allentown Parking Authority. The APA sells temporary signs at our main office for $3.00 each. We will need to know where the signs will be posted, the beginning and ending dates and times of day you need the area clear. Signs posted on parking meters need to be posted at least 12 hours in advance to be legally enforceable, all other areas require 72 hour advance posting. If you observe a damaged or missing permanent sign, or if you feel an additional sign is needed, send an email to George Grazer with the location of the sign and any other information you may have.

Temporary Signs for Metered Areas

Directions for Temporary No Parking Signs in Metered Areas

Temporary ‘NO PARKING’ signs must be posted 12 hours prior to effective date in metered areas. Officers will enforce the signs as stated with no exceptions.

There are two reasons for issuing temporary ‘NO PARKING’ signs:

1. 1. To reserve a space for work vehicles that need to be in close proximity of work being done.

2. 2. If work being done is in an area that requires no vehicles to be parked on the street.

If signs are issued to reserve a space, the procedures listed below must be followed. This is because officers will enforce the signs with no exceptions.

Once the vehicle is in place:

1. 1. Temporary ‘NO PARKING’ signs should be removed

2. 2. Vehicle must be parked legally either by:

   1. a. depositing coins in the meter, or

   2. b. displaying a parking meter permit inside of windshield.

If vehicle needs to leave the space, sign should be reposted until vehicle returns and same procedure should be followed. Any vehicle parked at a temporary ‘NO PARKING’ sign is still subject to ticketing for street cleaning.

Temporary ‘NO PARKING’ signs must be posted 72 hours prior to effective date in non-metered areas. Officers will enforce the signs as stated with no exceptions.

1. 1. To reserve a space for work vehicles that need to be in close proximity of work being done.

2. 2. If work being done is in an area that requires no vehicles to be parked on the street.
