What You Need to Know About CashKeys
The Allentown Parking Authority is pleased to offer the pre-paid parking meter “CashKey”. This key is designed to eliminate the need to keep change handy to pay for parking meters. It is also an ideal way for a business to track expenses. To obtain a CashKey you may come to the Allentown Parking Authority office, located at 1005 Hamilton Street.
All you need to do is pay a $15.00 refundable deposit and the amount of the pre-paid meter dollars you select. You can then park at meters equipped with the CashKey outlet, insert your key and have money deducted from your Key. The Key deducts 1 quarter, ( 25¢), for each time you insert or remove the Key. Your CashKey will not allow you to obtain more than the maximum time on that meter. The parking meter will show you how much credit is left on your CashKey when you insert it into a meter the first time. You should insert the key, note how much credit is still available on the Key, and then remove the key. This will automatically credit the meter with 1 quarters worth of time. If you desire more time, simply insert the key again and remove it for another quarters worth of time, and so on. Remember that you only receive the maximum time allowable on that meter.
1. There is a $15.00 refundable deposit required. The deposit will be refunded by mail if the key is returned to the APA in good working condition.
2. You may choose to purchase time on your CashKey in increments of $5.00, with a minimum amount of $5.00, so you may purchase $5, $10, $15, $20, $25, etc.
3. When you have used up the time on your CashKey, or at any time you find it convenient to do so, you may return to the APA office and purchase more credit time. If you have credit remaining on your CashKey and you want to add more to it, you will not lose the remaining time, but the newly purchased credit will be added to it.
4. The parking meters fitted with the CashKey feature are designed to show the remaining balance available on the CashKey upon its insertion. Please be sure to look at your meter to assure there is time on it before you walk away from your vehicle.
5. Lost cashkeys are lost money! If you should lose your CashKey, the APA cannot refund the deposit or any time that may be left on the Key. However, if a lost Key is turned into the APA, we can trace the key to you and we will contact you.
6. Keep your cashkey away from magnetic fields, as contact may cause the key to malfunction and/or lose any available credit.
